TL;DR Summary
I'm looking for a ballpark estimate of the number of astronomers who use JWST data.
I'm looking for a ballpark estimate of the number of astronomers who directly use raw James Webb Space Telescope data, in part, to be able to compare it to the number of scientists using data from other telescopes and scientific experiments.

How about using the estimates for Hubble from the Hubble site?

1. How many astronomers have access to JWST data?

As of now, it is estimated that around 4,000 astronomers will have access to JWST data through the various observation programs approved by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI).

2. Will all astronomers be able to use JWST data?

No, not all astronomers will have access to JWST data. The observation programs are carefully selected and approved based on scientific merit and feasibility by the STScI.

3. Can astronomers from all countries use JWST data?

Yes, astronomers from all countries are able to apply for and use JWST data. The STScI follows an international peer review process to select observation programs, ensuring that scientists from all over the world have the opportunity to use the data.

4. How long will astronomers have access to JWST data?

JWST data will be accessible to astronomers for at least 5 years after the telescope's launch. However, the mission is expected to have a lifespan of at least 10 years, so there is a possibility for data to be available for a longer period of time.

5. Can astronomers use JWST data for their own research?

Yes, astronomers are encouraged to use JWST data for their own research. The data will be publicly available through the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) and can be accessed by anyone, not just the original observation teams.
