Power Quality with focus on harmonics

In summary, for literature on power quality analysis with a focus on harmonics, some suggestions include "Fundamentals of AC Power Measurements" from Tektronix, the basic tutorial and formula summary from Power Factor, and the International Standard for Harmonic Current Limits for AC Mains Connected Devices (IEC 61000-3-2). These resources can be found for free online or purchased as books.

Hi

Anyone got any suggestions/recommendations for literature either available for free online or books that I have to buy?

My background:
Electrical engineering student, working on a project that is about analysis of power quality with focus on harmonics.

1. What is power quality?

Power quality refers to the reliability and stability of the electrical power supply. It includes factors such as voltage level, frequency, and waveform shape.

2. What are harmonics?

Harmonics are unwanted electrical signals that can distort the voltage and current waveforms in a power system. They are caused by non-linear loads such as computers, variable speed drives, and LED lights.

3. How do harmonics affect power quality?

Harmonics can cause a range of issues including overheating of equipment, premature equipment failure, and interference with other electrical devices. They can also result in higher energy bills due to increased losses in the power system.

4. How can harmonics be mitigated?

There are several methods for mitigating harmonics, including using harmonic filters, implementing proper grounding and bonding practices, and choosing equipment that is designed to minimize harmonic distortion.

5. What are the standards for power quality and harmonics?

There are several standards that address power quality and harmonics, including IEEE 519, IEC 61000-2-2, and EN 50160. These standards provide guidelines for acceptable levels of harmonic distortion and methods for measuring and mitigating harmonics in power systems.
