Top quark Polarization understanding

In summary, the conversation revolves around the topic of top quark polarization and how it can be measured theoretically. The speaker mentions that the top quark polarization is zero and questions how this can be justified when observing its daughters. They also mention that they have checked how top-polarization-related observables are measured in ATLAS or CMS, but it is only through formulas. The other speaker asks for a place to start understanding the theory behind the calculations, specifically in an experimental paper.

Have you checked how we measure the top-polarization-related observables in ATLAS or CMS?

I don't know this topic, but if you could give me a place to start... Is there a particular experimental paper where you want to understand the theory of the calculations?

1. What is Top quark polarization?

Top quark polarization refers to the directional preference of the decay products of a top quark. This direction is determined by the spin of the top quark, which is a fundamental property of subatomic particles.

2. Why is understanding Top quark polarization important?

Understanding Top quark polarization can provide insight into the fundamental forces and interactions of the universe, as well as the properties of the top quark itself. It can also help in the search for new particles and phenomena beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.

3. How is Top quark polarization measured?

Top quark polarization is typically measured by examining the angular distribution of the decay products of a top quark in high-energy particle collisions. This distribution can then be used to infer the spin of the top quark and its polarization.

4. What can affect the polarization of Top quarks?

Top quark polarization can be influenced by a variety of factors, such as the energy and type of collision, the presence of other particles in the collision, and the spin of any other particles involved in the decay process.

5. How does Top quark polarization impact our understanding of the universe?

Top quark polarization plays a crucial role in our understanding of the fundamental forces and interactions of the universe. By studying the polarization of top quarks, we can gain a deeper understanding of the underlying physics governing the behavior of matter and energy at the smallest scales.
