Find Pressure from Force: Calculate PSI for 400lbs

Actually, that depends on the kind of loading (i.e. static or impact). It is true that to solve for stress, one only needs to divide F/A. However, in an impact situation, you force is actually mass times acceleration. Therefore, Stress = ma/A (I think)

Are there any CA structural engineers on this forum?

The part of the special seismic load combo with 1.2DL+0.5LL+Em. When I use this equation, do I apply a 1.33 increase if I choose to stay in ASD, or do I have to multiply Em by 1.4 (to bring to strength level) and then apply a 1.7 increase. My boss told me that Em is in strength level...

Is c the fastest known velocity?

If we put d=c/H in the v equation, we'll get v=c. Can this be true? If not how large does the universe have to be for v > c? Just trying to enlarge my understanding for the expansion of the universe. Thank you, and if I didn't have to eat, I'll go back to school and get...

Is c the fastest known velocity?

Thanks for the quick reply. So is there a value for which the universe is expanding? ie expanding at "c" or slighly less than "c". Thanks,

Is c the fastest known velocity?

Is "c" the fastest known velocity? Hi all, Newbie here wants to know, after a discussion over dinner with some friends, if the speed of light is the fastest known rate in the universe. Specifically, I want to know if the universe can expand at a rate > "c". I think not, because if the...
