I'm planning to start grad school for astrophysics next year, but am kind of put off by reading about the lack of jobs in science after graduation. It looks like data science is the current hot field to go into, even for PhDs in other fields. Would it make sense to start a PhD program fully...
Hi everyone. I was trying to look around at different grad programs for space physics (solar wind, magnetosphere, etc, not that electric universe garbage), and couldn't find a whole lot of good info on reputations or rankings or anything like that. I found a list here...
I don't know anyone who works there, unfortunately, but one of my students just told me she has an aunt who earned her PhD in physics at ASU 20 minutes away. I think I'll talk to her and send out a couple e-mails to professors with interesting-sounding research. I'm not really sure how it will...
Thank you! I think you're right about contacting my old professors. Unfortunately, many of them (including the one I did research for) have moved on. I'm sure I'll be able to find a way to contact him, though. The thing I'm concerned about there is that it would be a recommendation based on...
I graduated with my BS in physics in 2005 with a 3.75 GPA. Now I'm teaching high school physics and find myself wanting to get an advanced degree. I'd like to get a PhD eventually, but I'm not really sure how to get back into that world. I figured going through my upper-level textbooks and...
Sorry to necro post, but I'm 30 and seriously considering going to grad school 9 years later. My biggest problem right now is that I'm not really sure how to go about getting a strong application, etc. I've been going over my upper-level coursework and getting ready for the physics GRE (which...
I really think it's easier to figure out the work needed to pull the system of blocks against the net force from gravity on them: m1g-m2gsin(40). Since work is force times displacement, multiply that sum of forces by 0.2m to figure out the work necessary to move the blocks 20cm. You're also...
I'll add my two cents to this. First off, I plowed through and got my BS in physics without any idea what I wanted to do after graduation. It took me a few years after that to figure out that I wanted to teach high school physics. Even so, I may very well go to grad school eventually to get a...
Personally, I would consider the two masses combined to be my system and find the amount of energy needed to pull them 20cm. I'd break this into two steps. First I'd find the energy needed to pull the blocks 20cm against the net force of gravity on the blocks. After I've found that, I would...
Yeah. I also just did it using B=μ°I/2∏r and doing a double integral with z on the inside going from 0 to (h/b)(r-a) and r going from a to a+b. The result I got was nearly the same as expected except that I also found the denominator inside the logarithm is a and not b.
I was able to find this program: http://physics.asu.edu/graduate/mns
It's not an MS program, but it does have some advanced physics classes as well as teaching methods classes. It's probably the best program I'm going to find. The only other one I've been able to find is an MS Physics...
Hello everyone! I have a BS in physics as well as an AZ teaching license and am currently teaching high school physics/math. I plan to get a master's in the next few years and would rather earn one in my content area than in education. I can't seem to find any programs that would allow me to...
