Question About infinitely large charged plate
Oooo I think i finally understand. Its all about the charge density on the sheet right? In a infinitely large sheet the charge is infinite so to calculate the field they use Gauss' law? Which gives a electric field strength over area ratio right? The amount of charge is infinite but the...- BERGXK

Question About infinitely large charged plate
Thanks for all your answers guys but i think I understand it Qualitatively but not quantitatively yet. I keep thinking of charges as mass and electric fields are acceleration is this correct to assume? But I still can't really grasps what voltage is. Here is the answer in the back of the...- BERGXK

Question About infinitely large charged plate
In my MCAT review book there is a problem that is bugging me. If the distance between a point charge and an infinitely large charged plate is increased by a factor of 2, t he new force on the point charge will be? The answer is it will remain the same. Why is this? Isn't the force on a...- BERGXK

Need help understanding Initial Mass Function
No idea lol, I've haven't had time to go to lecture recently with projects in my other classes. This was just an example in the teachers online notes but he sort of just pulls an answer out and idk how anything works other then the obvious change in N over change in mass is inversely...- BERGXK

Need help understanding Initial Mass Function
I need help understanding initial mass function. In class the teacher gave us a example to understand this concept but I am completely lost. Can someone please decrypt this problem for me? I really don't have a clue on how to get started at all. Assume the milky way contains 5 x 10^10...- BERGXK

Graduate The spectrum of reflected light from a planet question.
Thanks for the quick reply. I still don't quite get it though. Plancks Spectrum gives an intensity of light at a certain wavelength and temperature right? For a star you can chose the wavelength and calculate the temperature if you assume the star is a blackbody. But how would you do this...- BERGXK

Graduate The spectrum of reflected light from a planet question.
Is the spectrum of reflected light of a planet the same as the spectrum of the star near it but just less in magnitude? Like when you do B(Lambda;T) for it you just multiply that answer by the albedo?- BERGXK

Graduate Dimensional analysis on Luminosity
Im very confused on this subject. In the class example we did we found P relation to KT by dividing their units and receiving L^-3 as the unit of difference. Therefore reaching the conclusion P~nKT. For the second problem we did a relativistic Degenerate gas. We started this problem...- BERGXK

Thanks for the repy, I still have a question though Does A=L^2? The energy released by the star also relates to the distance could the A value be distance^2?- BERGXK

Graduate Dimensional analysis on Luminosity
I am having trouble with one of the problems on my hw. The question is: Because light carries momentum, it creates pressure when it shines on something. This has led people to propse using "solar sails" instead of conventional rocket engines on interplanetary or interstellar space craft. A...- BERGXK
