Solve for Complex Number z5= -1: Tips & Solutions for a Tricky Question
Thanks for replying. I've not come across this before so sorry if I've completely missed the point. So is this what the question is looking? (z+1)*(z4-z3+z2-z+1)- cosmictide

Solve for Complex Number z5= -1: Tips & Solutions for a Tricky Question
Thanks guys. I'm still not entirely sure what I need to do in respect to comparing the two sides to see what the product equals. Is there any worked examples of similar problems I can look at? Thanks.- cosmictide

Solve for Complex Number z5= -1: Tips & Solutions for a Tricky Question
Thanks for your reply. I've only briefly come across the complex exponential. I know it expresses a complex number much more concisely but usually the questions I get asked specify if that's what they're looking for. To be honest there's nothing about how to answer the question in any...- cosmictide

Solve for Complex Number z5= -1: Tips & Solutions for a Tricky Question
Homework Statement Hi guys, I have no idea what this question wants me to do. Any clarification would be appreciated. Let z0, z1, z2, z3 and z4 be the solutions that you obtained. Use the factorization z5+1= (z - z0) (z - z1) (z - z2) (z - z3) (z - z4) to determine the complex...- cosmictide

Manipulating Equivalent Expressions -4/(4x+1)^(1/2) to (1/4+x)^(-1/2)
Okay so I must be missing something else. I'm trying to find the Taylor series about 0 for the function g(x) = (1/4 + x)-1/2 from the series of the function f(x) = (1/4 + x)-3/2 = 8 - 48x + 240x2 - 1120x3 by using integration. I've done the integration to get -4 / (4x + 1)1/2 = c + 8x...- cosmictide

Manipulating Equivalent Expressions -4/(4x+1)^(1/2) to (1/4+x)^(-1/2)
Hi, thanks for your reply. I know they're not equivalent, what I'm trying to do is manipulating the first expression to become the second expression if that makes sense.- cosmictide

Manipulating Equivalent Expressions -4/(4x+1)^(1/2) to (1/4+x)^(-1/2)
Homework Statement Hi guys, I'm getting confused trying to manipulate an expression. Any help here would be hugely appreciated. How do I manipulate the expression -4 / (4x + 1)1/2 to become (1/4 + x)-1/2 The Attempt at a Solution I've tried dividing by -4 to get and used an index...- cosmictide

Differentiation of a Taylor series
Thanks for the reply. So I'm left with: -3 / 2(1/4+x)5/2= -48x + 240x2 - 1120x3... How do I isolate it? I've tried multiplying and dividing both sides by 3 and 2 but that's clearly wrong! Any help here would be greatly appreciated.- cosmictide

Differentiation of a Taylor series
Okay this time using the chain rule I calculated the derivative to be 3 / 2(1/4+x)5/2...is that any better? I think once I get the factor right I just use it on the left-hand side to make the equation equal but not sure what it is yet.- cosmictide

Differentiation of a Taylor series
Thanks for your reply. The derivative of (1/4 + x)-3/2 is -48/(4x+1)5/2 so no they're not equal. I have no idea how to put that right though! Any help would be hugely appreciated.- cosmictide
