Schools Is Studying Physics at Concordia University Worth It?
I'm a physics undergrad at concordia. I started last fall after finishing a degree in computer eng. in lebanon. I wanted to go to mcgill, and i got refused too (i only had 3.1-3.2 gpa since i wasn't that interested in eng.). The physics program here (so far) is satisfactory to me. There are some...- DrKareem

Undergrad Ancient Egyptian 2/n-Table: Solved 4k Yrs Ago?
Thanks robert Ihnot for this explanation. I guess this is the first time i get exposed to ancient mathematics. I hope i can get the time to fiddle with them before my finals. I'll also try to contact my prof soon and see if his paper about them was published or not.- DrKareem

Undergrad Ancient Egyptian 2/n-Table: Solved 4k Yrs Ago?
The page that provided states that the conjecture is solved? (however, i still don't fully understand the conjecture yet). Anyways I'm still curious...- DrKareem

Undergrad Ancient Egyptian 2/n-Table: Solved 4k Yrs Ago?
One of my former teachers claimed that he had solved an ancient problem (4k y/o) called Egyptian 2/n-table. He told me (a while ago) that he submitted his proof to historia mathematica but i didn't communicate with him since and didn't know what happened next. I'm wondering if anyone could show...- DrKareem

Graduate Question about heat conduction equation.
Thanks HallsofIvy. I already solved it, and it was easy as expected (i just didn't know the mathematical interpretation of the word 'insulated' in that context).- DrKareem

Graduate Question about heat conduction equation.
yes, i made those horrible typos sorry again (been up very early having nothing to do but solve). I will try solving it, i think it should be easy. Thanks for the input.- DrKareem

Graduate Question about heat conduction equation.
I'm sorry, I (falsely) assumed everyone would recognize the equation i had in mind. The equation is \frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial t} = a^2 \frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial x^2} With U(0,t)=0. U(L,t)= ??- DrKareem

Graduate Question about heat conduction equation.
I know how to solve a 1-D heat conduction equation when both ends are kept at 0 temperature(using separation of variables and Fourier series.). In the notes, the prof asked us to solve for one end kept at zero and the other insulated (at x=L) and referred to a non-existent chapter in our...- DrKareem

Calculators TI-89 Titanium INTEGRATION Flaw?
Maybe if it's hard for you to integrate 1/(1-ax) with respect to x then you do have a problem? Taken from 1/a onwards, the integral of 1/1-ax is (-1/a) ln |1-ax|. Knowing how that solve your problem without needing the calculator.- DrKareem

Undergrad Where Can I Find Information on Fourier Series in 2-D and Orthogonal Systems?
Hi. I've been trying to find some material about Fourier Series in 2-D, along with 2-D Orthogonal Systems, but i haven't been able to find any about the former in any of the books i have (Toslov and Butkov's Mathematical Physics) nor online (nothing on mathworld?). Any input would be appreciated.- DrKareem

Graduate How to FULLY understand a definition?
I've always seen Mathematics as the study of mathematical relations among different abstract ideas (i know the defenition is a bit recursive). Most of the time i find it difficult to understand those abstract ideas but get familiazed with the relations among them faster. However, knowing the...- DrKareem

Graduate What is the residue of exp(1/z) at z=0?
Thank you HallsofIvy for clarifying this matter. This must be the reason why the other methods for finding the residue are not applicable, just like what Deadwolfe suggested. That explains a lot. And thanks for the rest for your input. -

Oh yes it is a typo. Thanks for the input.
