Understanding Quasiparticles: Definition, Properties, and Role in Physics

I am confused as to what a quasi particle is. I know that it only occurs when a microscopic system acts in an unorthodox way, but are they truly a particle? Are they fundamental? Have they been proven? If the answer to all of these questions is yes, why are they excluded from the standard model?

Mass of Higgs Boson: 125 GeV: How Do Particles Create Mass?

I apologize for the wording. How do they interact with other particles?

Mass of Higgs Boson: 125 GeV: How Do Particles Create Mass?

M Because of that, my question is: What do Higgs bosons do if they aren't the reason particles have mass?

Mass of Higgs Boson: 125 GeV: How Do Particles Create Mass?

If If the Higgs Bosons are just the product of an energy field, are they really necessary for the interactions with particles that gives them mass?

Mass of Higgs Boson: 125 GeV: How Do Particles Create Mass?

As you may know, the mass of the Higgs Boson is 125 GeV. My question is, "How can the particles themselves that create mass by interacting with others have mass?"

QCD Colors: What Do They Mean?

OK I think I finally get it. Thank you.

QCD Colors: What Do They Mean?

W What makes a quark change color charge?

Is the tetraneutron a real element without any protons?

I I'm sorry, I was referring to exotic atoms, which are too unstable to be considered elements, but thank you for the answers.

Is the tetraneutron a real element without any protons?

Chemistry focuses most heavily on the interactions of electrons. While we use the properties of the nucleus to tell us how many electrons there will be under certain conditions, and how strongly attracted to the nucleus some electrons will be, the nucleus is not essential for an element that is...

QCD Colors: What Do They Mean?

So can a red quark become a blue or green quark?

Is the tetraneutron a real element without any protons?

[SIZE=16px]Xg [SIZE=16px] Chemical elements by definition are the smallest unit of a substance that still retains the substance's properties, not a particle with protons, neutrons, and electrons.

QCD Colors: What Do They Mean?

[SIZE=16px] I was thinking about it like chemistry, since that is easier for me to understand. Instead of quarks, I thought of Hydrogen atoms. Instead of color charge, I thought of electric charge. If one hydrogen ion is more negatively charged than another, this is due to it having more...

    Tachyons: Properties, Predictions, Detection

What are our current predictions, if any, about the properties of tachyons? All I know is that their mass is equal to a complex number and that they speed up as they lose energy. I also heard that they thought neutrinos were tachyons until they fixed the loose cable at the OPERA. Have we...

QCD Colors: What Do They Mean?

Thank you for that great answer, but I still have one question. How can an up quark be different from another up quark? Does this suggest that preons exist?
