Testing Transformer: What is the Top Metal Thing?

Hi everyone. What is the metal thing on the top of the testing transformer (figure below)? It looks like electrode, but what is the use? I find it ubiquitous in many HV equipments.

    Why Is ZnO Conductivity Non-Linear?

I want to understand the conductivity of ZnO. I know it is non-linear (that's why it is used in surge arrester to begin with), but can anyone enlighten me on why it is non-linear? Is it the function of electric field, current, or anything? I'd appreciate if you can provide the expression of...

Is Reactive Power Useful? When Should It Be Minimized?

Yes I understand the definition of reactive power. It is the power that flows back and forth on transmission lines and does not do work(correct me). My question is, is reactive power useful? In what case reactive power has to be minimized as low as possible? I read an article about the...

    Inductance of Solenoid w/ Rod Inside: R, L, N, I, μ

A solenoid has a radius R, length L, with N turns and carrying a current I. If a cylindrical rod with permeability μ and radius R/2 is inserted inside the solenoid, what is the inductance of solenoid?

    Hartley Receiver and MATLAB Simulink

Homework Statement I am totally new to MATLAB. My lecturer wasn't aware of that and just gave us an assignment about explaining the phenomena Hartley Receiver using Simulink.Homework Equations The diagram is attached as first picture. Using Simulink, prove that the image signal is alleviated at...

Full Load & No Load: Meaning in Motor Context

In that sense, is it that no-load current means the current in motor when the mechanical load is absent?

Full Load & No Load: Meaning in Motor Context

What is the meaning of full load and no load, in the context of motor? Does the load here mean mechanical load?

Does the Presence of Rc Affect the Voltage Gain in a Common Collector Amplifier?

I knew the role of emitter resistor is to stabilize Q-point. As far as I concern, the voltage gain of CC should approximately equal to 1, after all CC is just used as buffer, we don't want so much gain. Is it possible it is less than 1, like you said?

Does the Presence of Rc Affect the Voltage Gain in a Common Collector Amplifier?

Normally in common collector amplifier, Rc (collector resistor) is absent or otherwise it is short circuited by capacitor. My question is: If Rc is present and not short circuited, does it affect the voltage gain? If it does, how it affects? Appreciate if someone can present clearly in...
