I am a Physics graduate wondering how to bridge the knowledge gap between my degree and a mechanical engineering degree. If anyone as any idea of what a mechanical engineer should know coming out of a degree then that would be very helpful.
many thanks

Hi all,
I have a problem I need solving. I have a large cylinder about 60 metric tonnes in mass, with a force acting upon it that is 7500 metric tonnes. The force is perpendicular to the axis of rotation. If the cylinder is free to rotate and simply sitting on mountings then how do I work...
Hey guys, I know this is basic nuclear physics but I've forgotten how to do it. Given the atomic mass of Oxygen 16 (8p 8n), Oxygen 15(7n 8p) and Nitrogen 15(8n 7p), having found the average energy binding energy per nucleon (i think i have it right) find how much energy is required to remove...
Apparently In optical spectroscopy it is common to use the unit cm^-1 tro define the energy (or frequency of a photon that is emitted or absorbed in a transition between electronic states of an atom. This is derived from the reciprocal of the wavelength of the photon (wavelength in cm)...

Hi again, i am having a little bit of trouble with a question my professor has set. He asks us to consider the 3p4s configuration in the L-S coupling and j-j coupling approximations and sketch the energy levels schemes that characterise the two. Does this involve finding...
Hi, I am a student at Nottingham University England. I am currently studying for a degree in Physics, doing a second year module in Quantum Mechanics. I was just wondering if anyone could explain the indistinguishability of particles.
