    Bending and circumferential stress-Cylinder

Homework Statement How do we combine bending stress on thick walled cylinder from external point load or moment to other longitudinal, radial and hop stresses which are from pressurized thick walled cylinder. Since bending stress and longitudinal stresses are in the same direction, do we just...

Thick walled Pressure vessel -Principle stresses

Thanks for the reply. So there is no shear stress in this, only 3 normal stresses (radial, hoop and axial).

Thick walled Pressure vessel -Principle stresses

Homework Statement Hi, I trying to calculate principle stresses for pressure vessel (thick walled) which is pressurized from inside. I calculated all 3 stresses radial, hoop and axial and looking for what formulae to use to get to principle stresses. thanks Homework EquationsThe Attempt at a...

    Natural Frequency for torsional vibration

I am trying to calculate natural frequency for torsional vibration of fixed fixed beam using following formula. =1/2*3.142 sqrt(K*g/mr^2) hz Where K=J*G/L and G=Modulus of rigidity g=acceleration due to gravity=386.4 in/se2 m=mass hanging on the beam at distance 'r' from the longitudenal...

Test Results: Composite Panel Deflection & Stiffness

Hi: Recentlly we tested a composite panel for uniform pressure load and tablulated the deflection at few location where we were intersted. But when I tried to use hand equations to calculate the stiffness/deflection and I got totally diffefrent results for deflection.Actually deflections are...

Calculating Stiffness of Aluminum Plate with Pressure Load

Hi all: I am fresh to engineering and have basic question. I have a 100 inch length and 40 inch wide & 6 in depth plate , it has honeycomb structure what I mean 0.125 inch face sheet of aluminum on either side and rest (6-.125*2)is honeycomb made of alumnium. It is supportted on 4...

Short Edge Margin: Is 1.36D Sufficient to Prevent Shear-Out?

Hi If somebody is confused I just want to say that my bearing allowable is much higher than shear tear out so I think I shouldn't be worried for shear-tear out failure even though it is 1.3 D<2D. Am I right in this? And is shear tear out always occur after bearing failure? Thanks

Short Edge Margin: Is 1.36D Sufficient to Prevent Shear-Out?

Hello All, I have short edge margin condition of 1.36D on one of the part.Actually 3 parts of aluminum are joined together by bolts and one part has short edge margin. All the parts have sufficient bearing strength. So if I understand right bearing failure occurs before...

Hertz Contact Stress: Calculating & Comparing Allowable Stress

HI All: Using Hertz contact formula I calculated contact stress for cylinder in contact with cylinderical socket but I don't know to which stress to compare this contact stress.Actally I comapred with material bearing stress & calculated stress was less that bearing stress(got margin of...
