    Ion exchange and stability constants

My answer isn't making sense. I did the calculations. So I had Kf = [CaFA]/[Ca2+][FA] 1.2E3 = [CaFA]/ (0.9E-3)(6E-8) = 6.5E- 5 mol/L But this is higher than my FA value. Somehow I'm coming up with more Ca-FA binds then total binding sites. What step am I missing?

    Ion exchange and stability constants

The reactions I listed were given by my professor when I asked him for help and it left me a bit more confused. I assumed he just meant Org- is same as A-. Do I need to calculate H+? I am just looking for Ca2+Fa/Fa right?\ DO I just calculate Kf = Ca2+FA/[FA][Ca2+] I also want to thank you...

    Ion exchange and stability constants

Homework Statement In natural water containing 0.9 mmol/L calcium and 12 ug/L fulvic acid, determine the fraction of the fulvic acid that is bound to calcium (i.e. the ratio between the concentration of Ca-FA and total concentration of FA binding sites), assuming that calcium is the only metal...

Stokes law - Settling velocity and rate

Homework Statement 1. A fly ash (ρ =1.8 g/mL) aerosol consists of particles averaging 13 μm in diameter and with a concentration of 800μg/m3. Use the average diameter to calculate the settling velocity (cm/s) and settling rate (μg/m/s) of the particles in air. The Stokes-Cunningham slip...

Calc pH of Rainwater w/ SO2: 1ppm in Polluted Air Mass

So would H2SO3 be 1E-6 M? Using that and doing the quadratic equation to calculate x I get 1E-6 and I don't think my answer makes sense. As when I check my answer I cannot get the same Ka value reported.

Calc pH of Rainwater w/ SO2: 1ppm in Polluted Air Mass

How do I take into account the water in the reaction then? Or how do I convert SO2 concentration to acid? That's what I don't I know how to do?

Calc pH of Rainwater w/ SO2: 1ppm in Polluted Air Mass

Oh yeah, guess the acid dissociation stuff slipped my mind. I haven't done much of henry's law but looking online does this go in the right direction? I found pressure of water at 25 C to be 0.032 atm. An equation showed me P[SO2] = (1 - 0.032 atm)(1E-6) = 9.7E-7 atm 1E-6 is 1 ppm of SO2...

Calc pH of Rainwater w/ SO2: 1ppm in Polluted Air Mass

Homework Statement Calculate the pH of rainwater in equilibrium with SO2 in a polluted air mass for which the sulfur dioxide concentration is 1ppm. SO2(g) +H2O(g) = H2SO3(aq) Kh=1M/atm H2SO3 = HSO3- + H+ Ka=1.7x10-2MHomework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I'm pretty lost for this one. I...

How Much Carbon from Fossil Fuels and Deforestation Remains in the Atmosphere?

Parts per million. I know how to convert CO2 ppm to atm, but not sure what to do with that number either.

How Much Carbon from Fossil Fuels and Deforestation Remains in the Atmosphere?

Homework Statement The total mass of C contained in all fossil fuels burned from 1750 to 2000 is estimated as 2.77 x 1014 kg C. The amount of C released as CO2 from agricultural expansion and deforestation during the same period is estimated as 1.31 x 1014 kg C. The concentration of CO2...

How Much Na2S2O3 Is Needed for Titration in This Redox Reaction?

Ah, possibly I'm going about it the wrong way, can I instead just avoid the w/w of Cl? 0.6028 g / MW Cl-/ MW Ca(OCl)Cl = mol Cl- Does anyone know, I'm really lost in the solution.

    Gravimetric Analysis, Volatilization

One thing I was just thinking. Would amount of Ba always be the same in the total sample because of moles? Does it make sense to just take MW Ba/MW BaCl2*2H2O = 137.327/244.26296 = 56.22%

    Gravimetric Analysis, Volatilization

Homework Statement Consider an unknown solid containing BaCl2. 2H2O (MW = 244.26296). When the unknown is heated to 160 °C for 1 h, the water of crystallization is driven off: BaCl2.2H2O(s) ---> BaCl2(s)+ 2 H2O(g) A sample originally weighing 1.9226 g weighed 1.5647 g after heating...

How Much Na2S2O3 Is Needed for Titration in This Redox Reaction?

Would I just divide it by 2? So only 1/2(1.785 mmol Cl) take place in the reaction?
