    Engineering notation question

Thank you very much. That makes sense perfect sense. Thanks! My book says the answer is .5 microseconds and that’s why I was getting confused. I thought the answer should have been 500 nanoseconds, because as you said, the number before the unit should be 1.0 and 1000.0

    Engineering notation question

I’m taking an electronics course and in the book it’s talking about a period in AC electricity and it asking me to find the frequency for the period and also the time for the frequency. The problem is this: Calculate the period for the two frequencies of 1 MHz and 2 MHz. For 1 MHz I...

Programs Parents Won't Pay for Physics Major

Like others have mentioned I think you should drop your foreign language classes and concentrate on your math/physics studies. When I started reading the beginning of your thread I wondered why your Dad was pushing you in a different direction than physics. Later in the thread you said that...

Tips on Taking Notes for Math-Heavy Courses

The significant gain is that you learn by doing. You don’t sit in a math or physics lecture and walk out an Einstein. Only after “doing” do you start to know what to do. Writing things down in lectures is part of this process. Woodworking is another example, after watching Norm Abrams on TV...

Tips on Taking Notes for Math-Heavy Courses

Yep, I used it for my last Math class this semester and I *LOVED* it. I used it for studying for the final exam as well. There were certain topics that I forgot and being able to see the lecture again was great. There's nothing like being able to see the lecture again. -- The pen records your...

Tips on Taking Notes for Math-Heavy Courses

Like the post above me said, use a pen and paper. I use Livescribe found at http://www.livescribe.com/en-us/ for my Math courses. It really helps when studying for finals because I can remember stuff at the beginning of the semester. marly

I agree, go down to the Uni and find out what needs to be done. There must be something that can be done in NZ. marly

Schools I never graduated from high school, what are my options?

I was in a similar situation (I’m in the US though). When I was in grade school I missed a lot of school (I spent some time in a hospital), in middle school I got the shaft too, and by the time High School rolled around I missed a lot of that too. When I went back to school, first thing they...

Should I Take an Introductory Physics Course Before Calculus I?

I never really had much math back ground and I was lucky I passed high school math. I was in the hospital a lot, I think my teacher felt sorry for me and gave me a passing grade, so I could get my HS diploma. I decided to go to college and I took my placement tests and they placed me in...
