Courses Guidance needed - IT/Computing Course
Thanks Chiro, I just talked to my manager who has a degree in CS and she said pretty much the same things as you did. So I've made up my mind to do the first already.- noobilly

Courses Guidance needed - IT/Computing Course
Hey Chiro, thanks a lot. I was really mostly dealing with already complete systems (SAP if you have heard of it) so most of my work was non-programming, e.g. gathering business requirements, discussing with clients, configuring the system, testing, managing data etc. My only actual programming...- noobilly

Courses Guidance needed - IT/Computing Course
Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some input from people who have taken IT or Comp Sci courses before. The situation is like this: I did business in college, but ended up implementing business systems. I did some programming and enjoyed it, so now I plan to take a formal Computing diploma...- noobilly

Possible to learn physics all online?
Actually I'm curious to hear about this, I myself plan to take a post-graduate diploma in math all online too - but I imagine it would be easier than physics because there is no lab component. How would the lab part be done online?- noobilly

Triangle Integral Formula: Uncovering the Truth Behind b3/6
(b^2)/2 is the area of the triangle - that's the formula you should get after you do the integration, not before. just think of integration as finding the area under the line- noobilly

Math Is it too late to switch from business to math as a career path?
Yea if you like computational math maybe you could combine that with your business background to get some kind of finance job. If you like pure math then that's a different matter.- noobilly

Programs What Do Math Majors Wish They Knew Before Graduation?
It sounds pretty interesting, though perhaps not very suitable as a Calculus 1 class for all freshmen, it could be a good optional class. This style of teaching actually sounds more like a law class where one student defends his opinion from the attack of other students. I had a legal class...- noobilly

Self-Taught vs. Academic: The Need for Formal Education in Mathematics
twofish, for math and science knowledge, do you think it is feasible to have a more exam-based system? Something like say, Calc BC, but on a more advanced and comprehensive scale, so you can show the certificates of exam grades to substitute for a degree.- noobilly

Physics Is it better to get a physics degree than a business degree to work in business?
I'm not sure that a business degree is that useless even if it doesn't open career doors - basic finance, accounting and economics are useful in quite a few ways in daily life I think. Besides, how do you know there aren't people who are not intrinsically interested in business?- noobilly

Math Study Order: Advice for Self-Study
Ok thanks guys, I think I will proceed with linear algebra before differential equations. I'm wondering whether the later courses such as PDE's and so on are as easy to self-learn or not, at the moment they look really tough to me. But then again so did Calculus 3 at the start... I'm hoping they...- noobilly

Self-Taught vs. Academic: The Need for Formal Education in Mathematics
Well you are compensated for "giving over your life to the system and paying for it", the compensation is better career prospects and, to some extent, more social respect. It makes sense to me at least.- noobilly

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Thanks, I think you hit the nail there - I'm not very great at grasping abstract concepts. For calculus i usually have to work through a few concrete examples to get the mechanics down, then think of an intuitive explanation, before I can look back at the proof and really "get it". So this...- noobilly

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
I'm wondering about abstract algebra. I was doing Calc 1-3 and although I had to put in plenty of effort, it still made sense to me. But now when I look at some notes on abstract algebra it doesn't seem to be comprehensible to me at all. Am I missing some kind of prerequisite here, or have to...- noobilly
