Engineering How Is Total Power Calculated in AC Circuits?
Ok guys this one is straight out of a textbook, (Tooley, M. and Dingle, L. (2008) Higher National Engineering, 2nd ed. Oxford: Elsevier, p.353.) Homework Statement v=50sin(\omega t)+10sin(3\omega t + \pi /2) i=3.54sin(\omega t + \pi /4) + 0.316sin(3\omega t +0.321)Homework Equations...- Simon.T

Calculating Bearing Friction Torque in Winding Drum System
I am familiar with the basics concept of kinetic friction (such as pushing a box on a surface), but how do you calculate the friction torque caused by a bearing for example? In my college assignment, I have been told the bearings in a winding drum have a coefficient of friction of 0.04...- Simon.T

Max and min problem with 3 unknowns
Hi, thanks for taking a look at my question. The whole assignment isn't due for a week or so yet, so I won't find out for a while. I am somewhat confident of my approach but was just wanting someone to look it over. Cheers!- Simon.T

Will Using HC Instead of AC Resistor Damage My IC?
I'm not certain what it is you are trying to do, but why not try using the ground through the IC to complete the circuit, like this- Simon.T

What is a Distinct Number in Logic?
It means that each of the 4 numbers is different. Or to put another way, no two numbers are the same. I am confused though, because (92+93+95+96)/4=94 and those are distinct, and none are greater than 97 (the statement is false?)- Simon.T

Understanding the Relationship between Negative Angles and Tangent Function
Tee hee. You may want to explain it using a plot of tangent function compared to say, the sin function. It will be quite clear to see that the function (for tan) repeats every 180deg. You can them demonstrate it by putting examples into a calculator... tan(60) and tan(240) for example and...- Simon.T

Max and min problem with 3 unknowns
Hi, I have this question for a college assignment. It involves 3 'unknowns' (not 3 variables, since 2 are constants). The main difficulty I am having is inexperience with max and min problems where you cannot fully evalaute the solution. I think I have made a reasonable attempt at a...- Simon.T

Beam selection where moment capacity is exceeded
Hey, thanks for the reply. A quick question. What is the difference between elastic modulus and plastic modulus (in this context)? I realize that elastic deformation is non-permanent (elastic band) and plastic deformation is permanent (snapping/bending a ruler), but why is there a...- Simon.T

Beam selection where moment capacity is exceeded
Hi, I'm having difficulty with an assignment. Briefly, the question relates to a simply supported I beam containing a UDL and a point load. I've calculated the maximum bending moment resulting from these loads (neglecting beam mass) to be 5625kNm. I must select a universal beam from grade...- Simon.T

Why are wirewound resistors unsuitable for RF applications?
Wow, thank you for all your replies. The line is being driven by a 1 to 4 balun, with the signal generator being unbalanced. Forgive my ignorance by if the impedance was changing significantly with frequency we would see more ringing at higher frequencies? We don't see anything like...- Simon.T

Why are wirewound resistors unsuitable for RF applications?
Hi Vk6kro, thanks for the reply again :) Forgive me if it seems I am witholding crucial information, I did not want to post a huge wall of text in the beginning. The testing is done with an automated test computer. A signal generator with an output impedance of 50R is connected to a...- Simon.T

Why are wirewound resistors unsuitable for RF applications?
Hi, thank you for the reply. The transmission line we are using is this http://www.gore.com/MungoBlobs/26/322/Bonded_Telemetry_pairs_PLFWI1279.pdf The wire is not shielded. During testing the transmission line is connected to a signal generator with a 132R output impedance and...- Simon.T

Why are wirewound resistors unsuitable for RF applications?
Dear All I am hoping for some insight into a transmission line problem I have been experiencing. I am quite inexperienced and unqualified in this area so if I am not clear please let me know. In wiring loom assemblies my employer offers there is a twisted transmission pair. The...- Simon.T
