Magnitude of the Force of a kick to a basketball

I'm still not understanding. To find Vf, I use Vi*sin(24)+Vi*sin(24), b/c previously, you said that i need to multiply the trigs by the Vf, but i don't know what that is. how do i know the direction of the force and velocity?

Magnitude of the Force of a kick to a basketball

I don't think I'm following you on this. how and why are you using cos(30) and sin(30)?

    Angular velocity of ball-mass system

Homework Statement A device consisting of four heavy balls connected by low-mass rods is free to rotate about an axle. It is initially not spinning. A small bullet traveling very fast buries itself in one of the balls. In the diagram, m = 0.004 kg, v = 450 m/s, M1 = 1.4 kg, M2 = 0.3 kg, R1 =...

Magnitude of the Force of a kick to a basketball

ok, impulse =Fnet*DeltaT=DeltaP(change in momentum), right? am i still assuming that p=mv, so m*Vfinal-m*Vinitial=DeltaP where would i find the Vfinal?

Magnitude of the Force of a kick to a basketball

Homework Statement A 0.5 kg basketball is rolling by you at 3.9 m/s. As it goes by, you give it a quick kick perpendicular to its path. Your foot is in contact with the ball for 0.002 s. The ball eventually rolls at an angle of theta = 24 degrees from its original direction. Homework...

Compression of a Spring on an Asteroid?

but doesn't that answer give me a 3 on the bottom and a 2 on the top? The answer has a 3 on the top and a 2 on the bottom. Am I doing my algebraic manipulation wrong?

    Angular Momentum of Disk Question

That clears a lot up. But now, my question is after impact, what is the angular velocity (is it w - omega)? Is there conservation of angular momentum? Do we still have translational angular momentum since the clay has been stuck to the wheel?

    Angular Momentum of Disk Question

how to do i find a cross product of something when the position is a vector, but the momentum is only magnitude?

Compression of a Spring on an Asteroid?

If i chose the system where everything is in the system, there is no work external. SO, Ugrav=-Uspring, b/c Delta K and Delta mc^2 go to zero. but the answer is sqrt((3GmM)/(2Rks)) whereas my answer gives me: sqrt((2GmM)/(3Rks)). what am i missing?

    Angular Momentum of Disk Question

Homework Statement A stationary uniform-density disk of radius 0.8m is mounted in the vertical plane. The axle is held up by supports that are not shown and is frictionless. The disk has a mass of 3.6 kg. A lump of clay with mass 0.3 kg falls and sticks to the outer edge at <-0.48, 0.64...

Compression of a Spring on an Asteroid?

Homework Statement A package with mass m sits on an airless asteroid of mass M and radius R. We want to launch a package straight up in such a way that its speed drops to zero when it is a distance 4R away from the center of the asteroid, where it's picked up by a waiting ship before it can...
