ok thanks for the response, the column of water would wiegh 1.26 pds and that number divided by 100/144 equals .547 but I am still having trouble finding what that really means. could u elaborate?
edit: no wait .03 is the weight of one cubic inch water and it goes into .69(100/144) 23 times...
Thx for the responce, i suppose you mean how much force is needed to push water up the external tube? Doesnt psi play a part in this discussion? I figured the push on the piston would be 100pds/144 sq inches = .69 psi plus the the psi for the column of water still in the tube which would...
Homework Statement
Not exactly sure how to post this but i will give it my best.
You have a tube and for simplicity sake let's say it is 1 ft by 1ft square. The tube is 42 inches tall. This tube is full of water and has a water tight piston at the top that is 1 ft by 1 ft. At the bottom...
Now i know it will be impossible to explain to me in depth on a forum the full explanation of the equation. But maybe you guys could give me some pointers as to why in so many of einsteins equations the speed of light is squared. Is it because of the fact that if u had a flashlight traveling at...
great post! i will go off of this thank you.:)
i have another question and it kinda relates to this post... well kinda.
atmospheric pressure is caused by the wieght of the air in a column above us.(correct?) anyway when a plane or anything that flys through the air is suspended in the air...
Yes I am fully aware now thank you for the reply. I have another question and i didnt want to do another post so here it goes.
Magnets are rated in strength by a value (pull force). Some of them are have a pull force of 550 lbs. what exactly does that mean? I am assuming it means that the...
That really wasnt the question. If i use your analogy then i would be asking if the scale would wiegh 100k pounds and one gram.
The idea i had had to do with friction to the ground. Basically if an object was suspended in space, even if it is a huge massive object, it would almost be...
Yes! Thank you for the reply. I thought it would be 2 grams and it kinda stinks because i had an idea if it the answer was one gram. Its still good to know however. If anyone else has anything to add id love to hear it. :)
I have a question concerning magnets.
Lets say i have 2 magnets each wieghing 1 gram each sitting on a scale. The scale reads 2 grams. What if i was able to stack the magnets by lining up the same poles so they repel each other and the magnet on top was floating over the magnet on the bottom...
wow good posts. so if a machine uses 10000 watts then it is really using 10000 joules per second. which means that in an hour (10000*3600=36,000,000 joules) which would be the equivalent of 10 kw. is this right? how many kilowatt hours would that be?
ok i think I am catching on here but... let's say we have a 100 watt lightbulb that's on for 1 hour. how many watts did the lightbulb use per second? would it be 100/3600? or .03 watts? considering 100 watt times 10 hours would be 1 kw. would it work out the same way?
EDIT: pls just bare...
wow thanks for the replies fellas. let's say i could slow the box down as it was falling. say have it fall the 2 meters in say 1 minute. would the output still be the same? i mean if i had it tied to a rope, there would be tension on the rope for 1 minute. isn't there more "energy" here? if I...
