Finding the k value in a pipe flow question
I am trying to do a pipe flow question but I am having trouble understanding how they have calculated the k values. Example question 1.1 attached & appendix A1 attached. We have to use appendix A1 to find the k values. I have tried using interpolation to get the k values from the example...- Stacyg

How Accurate Is the Analytical Method for Calculating Truss Forces?
Hi. The question is attached as well as my attempt at the answer, which I'm pretty sure is at least partially wrong. I have'ne included my calculations at point B as I have uploaded the limit of 3 files but I got BC=18.30kN (compression) Any help would be great thanks.- Stacyg

Calculating Cross Sectional Dimensions of Steel Bar Under Compression
A steel bar of rectangular cross section 120mm x 60mm is compressed along its longitudinal direction by a force of 1500kN. Do the cross sectional dimensions increase or decrease ? Calculate and write down the resulting dimensions for both sides for both sides of the cross section. Youngs modulus...- Stacyg

Calculating Shear Stress on a Rivet in Tension with Angle of Load
A load of 5kN is applied to the tensile member shown in the figure below and is carried at the joint by a single rivet of 20mm diameter. The angle of the joint is 60 degrees to the axis of the load (the axis of the rivet is at 30 degrees to the line of action of the load P). Calculate: (a) the...- Stacyg

Calculate Overflow Rate w/ Interpolation: BOD Removal 80%
Interpolation ? A treatment plant consists of a primary sedimentation tank followed by a trickling filter that removes 80% of the influent BOD. The flow is then directed to a constructed marsh system that has an influent target BOD concentration of 30 mg/l before being discharged to a small...- Stacyg

Reactions And bending moment and shear force diagrams
Hi. I've been given this to calculate the support reactions but I'm not sure how to handle the increasing udl. And how would this be shown on a Bending moment and shear force diagram?? Also with non increasing Udl's when calculating the reaction is it best to change the udl to one force...- Stacyg

Open Channel Flow (mannings equation) rectangular section
A rectangular concrete-lined channel is 2m wide with Manning's n 0.012 and a bed slope of 0.0025 m/m. Obtain the depth of flow when the discharge is 9m^3/s. Q=V.A I have the discharge but how do I calculate the velocity without the area ?? Once I have the velocity I should be able to work it...- Stacyg

Open Channel Flow (mannings equation)
A trapezoidal channel with side batters 1:1 and Manning's n value of 0.025 has a bed slope of 0.0045 m/m. When the depth is equal to the bottom width the discharge is 7.5 m^3/s. Calculate the bottom width to the nearest 0.01m. Using mannings equation V= 1/n.R^2/3.S^1/2 S=0.0045 n=0.025...- Stacyg
