What type of pressure is used in industry? Static or dynamic?
For example, in chemical plants, if a pressure gauge is on a pipe and it reads 5000 kPa, is this a static or total (static + dynamic) pressure reading? I am thinking it must be the total pressure. Would that mean that a pressure reading in this setting is both a measure of static pressure...- thereisnospoo

Pressure regulator question - Concerning flow rates
I see that pressure regulator curves show different flow rates, but I am confused by this because I was under the impression that the flow rate would be an "output" of the force/pressure balance across the pressure regulator. For example, assuming the inlet to a regulator is 500 kPa, and the...- thereisnospoo

Graduate How can I solve a coupled PDE and ODE using the method of lines?
Thanks for the reply! I actually meant that the 2nd equation is a partial derivative as well, which is why I think I'm running into my problem. do you have any insight into what I can do next?- thereisnospoo

Graduate How can I solve a coupled PDE and ODE using the method of lines?
I am trying to solve an ODE and PDE and I am having problems coming up with a method for doing so. The PDE is: k1*(dC/dt) = k2*(dC/dx) But I have an ODE that is an expression for dC/dt: dC/dt = k3*C Where k1,k2 and k3 are constants. I planned to use the method of lines to get...- thereisnospoo

Undergrad Reynolds Number and Friction Factor: How Does It Work?
So, I understand that when reynolds number increases, the fluid becomes more turbulent, and there is a greater energy loss due to formation of eddies. However, shouldn't this increase in reynolds number cause an increase in friction as well? But, according to the moody diagram...- thereisnospoo
