Hello, I am preparing for a physics exam which takes place next year. The scope of this test is mechanics, e&m, thermodynamics, relativity, waves, and modern physics. So once you manipulate the equation, you get $$v_b+v_r=\dfrac{AB}{a}$$ and $$v_b-v_r=\dfrac{AB}{b}$$ Using system of equations you add the two and you get $$2v_b=AB\left(\dfrac{1}{a}+\dfrac{1}{b}\right)$$ and divide by two on each side and you're left with that. Thank you for helping- user10921
