I think the point was it's difficult to blackmail somebody by threatening to reveal their homosexuality when they have already been convicted of it!
Well, prior to aldrino's input, the argument would have been that any future criminal activity he participated in, he could be blackmailed for. That point isn't particular to homosexuality. If you have a past with drugs and there's a chance you could use again and get blackmailed for it, then you're not a good pick for defense/intelligence agencies, regardless if people already know you used drugs.
