Ansoft Maxwell guidelines -- Simulate E(r) for charged sphere

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around simulating the electric field of a charged sphere using Ansoft Maxwell software. The user is attempting to model a 10 cm radius sphere with a charge of 1e-012 C and is seeking guidance on setting up the simulation. They have calculated the electric field analytically but are struggling with the finite element method in the software. Other participants suggest looking for example simulations within Ansoft Maxwell that match the desired geometry. The conversation emphasizes the importance of finding relevant examples to aid in the simulation process.

Hello,

I have to compare the real solution of the electric field radiated by a sphere, having 10 cm radius, charged with 1e-012 C (perfect conductor), something like E=f(x) where x is distance from the sphere, from 0m (surface of the sphere) to 1m, with numerical solution. I tried Ansoft Maxwell software, but I can't figure it out how to set the problem. Any suggestions will be more than welcome. I tried a 3D model but no good solution.

Thnak you.

Welcome to the PF.

What do you have for the analytical solution?

What experience do you have with simulation software like Ansoft Maxwell? What example simulations can you find with that tool for similar geometries?

Hello
I've just started using this software. For analytical solution I have the radius of the sphere r=10cm; the charge q=10^-12 C, and I calculated the electric field from the surface of the sphere to 1 meter from the sphere. This evolution I have to simulate using a finite element method software. I know Ansoft MAXWELL using this method for simulations.

There should be some good examples available with the software that are close to the geometry you want to simulate. What have you found in the way of examples? Can you post some links or screenshots for the examples?

While I was rolling out a shielded cable, a though came to my mind - what happens to the current flow in the cable if there came a short between the wire and the shield in both ends of the cable? For simplicity, lets assume a 1-wire copper wire wrapped in an aluminum shield. The wire and the shield has the same cross section area. There are insulating material between them, and in both ends there is a short between them. My first thought, the total resistance of the cable would be reduced...
Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
I am not an electrical engineering student, but a lowly apprentice electrician. I learn both on the job and also take classes for my apprenticeship. I recently wired my first transformer and I understand that the neutral and ground are bonded together in the transformer or in the service. What I don't understand is, if the neutral is a current carrying conductor, which is then bonded to the ground conductor, why does current only flow back to its source and not on the ground path...
