Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of building a speaker amplifier using basic electronics knowledge. Participants explore various components, circuit designs, and the necessary understanding of transistors involved in amplifier construction.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants inquire about the specific components needed to build a speaker amplifier.
  • One participant suggests searching online for resources to find guidance on building a speaker amplifier.
  • Another participant mentions the possibility of building a class AB amplifier or using an LM386 chip for a simpler design.
  • Questions arise regarding the choice of transistors, specifically whether to use NPN or PNP types, and how to adjust the base of the transistor.
  • Concerns are raised about the appropriateness of seeking advice on building amplifiers without a clear understanding of basic electronic components, such as distinguishing between NPN and PNP transistors.
  • Some participants suggest that building an audio amplifier kit may be a more suitable starting point for those with limited experience.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the readiness of individuals to build an audio amplifier from scratch, with some suggesting that more foundational knowledge is necessary while others propose starting with kits as a learning opportunity.

Contextual Notes

There are indications of missing assumptions regarding participants' prior knowledge of electronics, as well as unresolved questions about specific circuit details and terminology, such as "by pass."

How to build this amplifier ? Need what component!

If you want to play around with transistors you can build a class AB amplifier:

or you could build a simple amplifier with a chip LM386:

What transistor? NPN or PNP?

what's first circuit contains one of each, right?

Ya ! Which transistor? And how to adjust the base? And second circuit, what is mean by "by pass"?

I don't think this forum is the place to be looking for advice and circuits to build when a person can't tell the difference between an NPN and a PNP transistor from looking at the schematic. There are several other things omitted from the schematic that what posted as well. Not that it isn't a workable circuit, but it is not a turnkey solution. It is a place to start.

I agree with supernova -- you are not ready to make an audio amplifier from scratch.

But, you may be ready and interested in building an audio amplifier kit. That's a great way to learn how to build electronic circuits, and each kit generally comes with tutorial materials to help you understand how it works.

Have a look at these kits:

You can also just look at the electronics store nearest you (Radio Shack, Frys Electronics, etc.) at their kits.

Not me can't see the difference but have PNP and NPN transitor in first diagram and I just learn basic electronic only!
