AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the approval process for attachments in forums to prevent spam and inappropriate content. There is a suggestion to allow senior members with a certain post count to have automatic approval for specific file types that are safe from viruses. The feasibility of this idea is uncertain, and it has been considered previously. Users are encouraged to report any attachments pending approval for a quicker response. Overall, the conversation highlights the balance between security and user convenience in managing attachments.

"Attachment pending approval"

First let me say that I totally understand the need for approval of attachments, I've seen other boards get spammed with porn and so on and its a total nuisance. However I was wondering if anyone had considered allowing senior members (with over some minimum post count) to have automatic approval of certain file types (types incapable of carrying viri for example). Or is even tis too risky? Any comments?

This has been considered before. I'm not sure if it is possible. However if you do see an attachment that has been waiting for approval for a while, please feel free to report the post.

I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
