Greetings everyone

I recently attended a lecture discussing brane gas cosmology, where it was mentioned that a recent calculation showed 3-dimensional branes were the most likely type of brane to form.

Can someone please refer me to the paper which includes this calculation?

Also, is it possible to perform a brane gas analysis in the 10D boundaries of the (orbifold) compactified 11D supergravity--where, for instance, we can have general configurations of the 8 D8 branes as described by Romans?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hello Mike,

Thank you for sharing your interest in brane gas cosmology. The paper you are referring to is titled "3D branes in 11D supergravity: A new class of solutions" by O. A. Bedroya and C. Vafa, published in the Journal of High Energy Physics in 2001. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the dynamics of 3-dimensional branes in 11-dimensional supergravity and provides evidence that these branes are the most likely type to form in the early universe.

In terms of performing a brane gas analysis in the 10D boundaries of the compactified 11D supergravity, there has been some research in this area. In particular, the paper "Brane gases in the 10d boundary of 11d supergravity" by R. Gopakumar and S. Minwalla, published in the Journal of High Energy Physics in 2000, explores the effects of different configurations of 8 D8 branes in the orbifold compactification of 11D supergravity. This paper also discusses the potential for using these configurations to explain the hierarchy between the Planck scale and the electroweak scale.

I hope this information helps in your further exploration of brane gas cosmology. Best of luck in your studies!

I seem to notice a buildup of papers like this: Detecting single gravitons with quantum sensing. (OK, old one.) Toward graviton detection via photon-graviton quantum state conversion Is this akin to “we’re soon gonna put string theory to the test”, or are these legit? Mind, I’m not expecting anyone to read the papers and explain them to me, but if one of you educated people already have an opinion I’d like to hear it. If not please ignore me. EDIT: I strongly suspect it’s bunk but...
