Hello friends. I would like to know a bit about those who have gotten a BS in Geology.

Where do geology graduates work? I understand the majority of them work for oil companies and whatnot. Do geology grads work anywhere else at all or are they almost exclusively in that industry?

For mapping companies, mining companies, world governments, and even at university departments or research labs.

I do not know much about it, but I think many work in the oil, gas and petroleum sector, the groundwater industry;
environmental consultancies, construction companies, government organizations, mining companies, perhaps doing research, civil engineering (maybe?), university environment etc.

As a scientist with a background in geology, I can provide some insight into the career paths of geology graduates. While it is true that many geology graduates do work in the oil and gas industry, there are also a variety of other industries and sectors where their skills and knowledge are in demand.

Geologists can be found working in mining and mineral exploration, environmental consulting, government agencies such as the US Geological Survey, and in academia conducting research and teaching. They may also work in engineering and construction firms, providing expertise on geological hazards and site investigations.

Additionally, the skills acquired during a geology degree, such as critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving, are highly transferable and can be applied in a wide range of fields. Many geology graduates also pursue further education in related fields such as hydrology, geophysics, or environmental science.

So, while the oil and gas industry may be a popular choice for geology graduates, there are plenty of other opportunities available in various industries and sectors. It is important for geology students to explore their interests and career options to find the best fit for their skills and goals.
