Budget PCB Router: Find One Under $1,000

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding budget-friendly PCB routers under $1,000, specifically focusing on options like the LPKF milling machine and the Zenbot router paired with a Wolfgang Engineering spindle. Participants clarify the distinction between PCB routers for cutting multi-up panels and milling machines for creating two-sided PCBs. The Zenbot router is noted for its favorable reviews, particularly when equipped with the Wolfgang spindle, which is reputed for handling narrow traces effectively. While the Zenbot setup may exceed the $1,000 budget, it remains a competitive option for quality PCB milling.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of PCB milling and routing techniques
  • Familiarity with LPKF milling machines
  • Knowledge of Zenbot routers and Wolfgang Engineering spindles
  • Basic concepts of PCB design and trace width requirements
NEXT STEPS
  • Research LPKF Protomat milling machines for PCB fabrication
  • Explore Zenbot router specifications and user reviews
  • Investigate Wolfgang Engineering spindle capabilities for PCB applications
  • Watch demonstration videos on YouTube showcasing PCB engraving with Zenbot routers
USEFUL FOR

Electronics hobbyists, PCB designers, and engineers seeking affordable solutions for PCB routing and milling, particularly those interested in high-quality results for narrow traces.

Do any of you guys have a PCB router? Do you know of one for less than $1,000?

Do you mean a router to cut PCBs out of a multi-up panel? Or do you mean a PCB milling machine like the LPKF machines to let you mill a 2-sided PCB from copper clad?

If the latter, I know of a consultant who has an LPKF milling machine here in Silicon Valley. I can give you his contact info if you want it.

I'm currently looking into this myself. I'm starting to lean towards a zenbot router with a wolfgang engineering spindle. Comments I have read on forums around the web seem to be favourable to these products. I think you could expect to pay around $1500 for the lot however, which is still a good price.

This looks like a good option. Has anyone used a zenbot to engrave PCBs? Can it get the traces pretty narrow?

Apparently the wolfgang spindle is excelent for PCBs with narrow traces, there are some videos on youtude demonstrating. Can't say about the zenbot however.
