Calculating Bending Moment of Pinned Beam: Is it Negative?

Click For Summary
The bending moment of a pinned beam can indeed be negative, depending on the chosen sign convention. Calculating the bending moment along a 10-meter length reveals that values can vary, potentially resulting in negative readings. This is particularly relevant when analyzing the beam's response to applied loads. Understanding the implications of negative moments is crucial for accurate structural analysis. Ultimately, the sign of the bending moment is determined by the specific conventions used in calculations.

I have just calculated the bending moment of a beam for every metre over a 10 metre length, the beam is pinned at both ends.

Is it possible for the full diagram to be Negative?

Depending upon your sign convention, yes, why not?

Had my central air system checked when it sortta wasn't working. I guess I hadn't replaced the filter. Guy suggested I might want to get a UV filter accessory. He said it would "kill bugs and particulates". I know UV can kill the former, not sure how he thinks it's gonna murder the latter. Now I'm finding out there's more than one type of UV filter: one for the air flow and one for the coil. He was suggesting we might get one for the air flow, but now we'll have to change the bulb...
