Calculating Electrical Parameters of Solenoid Coil for Spring Force

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around calculating the electrical parameters of a solenoid coil for a valve, specifically in relation to a given spring force. Participants seek formulas to determine the required voltage, number of turns of coil winding, and current necessary to operate the solenoid against the spring force.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses the need for formulas to calculate the electrical parameters of a solenoid coil based on the force required to pull the solenoid plunger against a spring.
  • Another participant suggests that the Wikipedia page on solenoids could be a useful starting point for finding relevant information.
  • Several participants request specific formulas for building a solenoid, indicating a need for technical guidance.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no consensus on specific formulas or methods to calculate the electrical parameters, and multiple participants express similar needs without providing definitive answers.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not provided specific assumptions or detailed mathematical steps, and the discussion lacks clarity on the definitions of the parameters involved.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in electrical engineering, particularly those working with solenoids and related applications, may find this discussion relevant.

I want to calculate the electrical parameters of solenoid coil of a valve for a given spring force.
I know the force required to pull the solenoid plunger through a given distance against a spring, is there any formula to find out the required voltage, number of turns of coil winding & current .

The wikipedia page is a good place to start, and you can follow the links at the bottom of the page for more detailed info:
