Alternatives to the FlexiForce 1lb sensor are being explored due to its high cost of $20 each, especially for projects requiring multiple units. CUI was suggested, but inquiries revealed that their pressure sensors might be more expensive and require large orders. The discussion also highlights that cheap digital scales typically use resistive strain gauge sensors to measure weight, which operate similarly to FlexiForce sensors. It's important to differentiate these sensors from load cells, as they function differently. Overall, finding a cost-effective sensor solution remains a priority for the project.

Is there a alternative to the FlexiForce 1lb sensor. $20.00 a piece is rather high for my project, seeing how I will need multiple ones. Any ideas?

You could try CUI, but i don't know how much their pressure sensors might run you:

I gave them a call, the impression I got is I would need a huge order and is far more expensive than the FlexiForce. How is weight mesuared in those cheap digital scales? I am sure those are accurate enough for my purposes.

Electronic scales usually use some type of resistive strain gauge sensor to measure the displacement in a structure and back calculate the force from that which is similar to how the flexiforce things work. This should not be confused with a load cell.

Thread 'I thought it was only Amazon that sold unsafe junk'
I grabbed an under cabinet LED light today at a big box store. Nothing special. 18 inches in length and made to plug several lights together. Here is a pic of the power cord: The drawing on the box led me to believe that it would accept a standard IEC cord which surprised me. But it's a variation of it. I didn't try it, but I would assume you could plug a standard IEC cord into this and have a double male cord AKA suicide cord. And to boot, it's likely going to reverse the hot and...
