AI Thread Summary
Sheikh Muhammad al-Munajid criticized Mickey Mouse, claiming that according to Islamic law, the character should be killed due to its perceived role in promoting corruption. Al-Munajid, a former Saudi diplomat, aligns with Sharia law, which governs moral conduct in Islam. The discussion also touches on the fate of a Mickey Mouse look-alike named Farfur, who was depicted as a martyr in a radical Islamist TV show. Participants in the forum debate the implications of such views, with references to other children's characters like the Teletubbies, which have faced similar scrutiny for alleged moral issues. The conversation reflects broader concerns about censorship and the cultural significance of beloved characters in the face of extremist ideologies.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Munajid unleashed a verbal attack on the beloved Disney character, and said: “Mickey Mouse has become an awesome character even though according to Islamic law, he should be killed!”

The former diplomat, who worked in the Saudi Arabian embassy in the USA, believes that Mickey is a force of corruption, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute, MEMRI, and the Israeli internet news site Ynet. Muhammad al-Munajid adheres to Sharia, the body of Islamic religious law which also mediates moral conduct. [continued]

I love Zz's Disney thread. :!)

Zapper do you support that silly Save Mickey campaign that always comes up when the copyright is about to expire?

Radical Islamist TV broadcaster ‘Al Majd’, which is associated with the Hamas movement, has already brought about the death of one cartoon mouse. Last year the broadcaster introduced the Mickey Mouse look-alike ‘Farfur’. His fate? A martyr’s death.

I saw what happened to Farfur on YouTube. :(

No. Disney should have just let go of their copyright hold on Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse. I don't think for one second that they'll lose money on it because people will still associate it Disney.

Besides, they still have the current Mickey Mouse for many more years, and that's what most people associate what Mickey Mouse looks like.

Zz.

Haven't you heard? Tinky-Winky (or whatever its name is) is promoting homosexuality and should be banned from public TV.

And if you think it is a joke, you are wrong. That was what Polish extreme-right-winged-ultra-katholic-idiot said in an interview. Problem is, she was an official ombudsman for children rights at the time. That's what happens when you have twins as president and prime minister.

Judging who said it, I guess this is quite a complement to Mickey.
