Design an existing product with reciprocator mechanism

I was assigned to design an existing product with reciprocator mechanism as shown below

But i totally have no idea on it..Can someone please give me some advise?

Well, I'd start with determining what kind of motion a reciprocator like the kind shown produces. Then I'd think about what kinds of products (by the way, what does it mean to "design an existing product" ?) use that kind of motion.
