Cosmology Diff between Ryden's two 'Introduction to Cosmology' books?

AI Thread Summary
Barbara Ryden has authored two cosmology books, one published in 2003 and another in 2013. The 2013 edition is labeled as a "First Edition" and is a softcover, while the 2003 edition is a hardcover. There is uncertainty regarding the differences between the two books, as the 2013 edition does not appear to be a straightforward update of the earlier work, despite the ten-year gap suggesting potential new material. The 2003 book has 244 pages, while the 2013 edition has 264 pages and is described as revised and illustrated. Readers are seeking insights on whether the newer book is worth purchasing, given that the older edition is available for borrowing from libraries.

Barbara Ryden seems to have two Cosmology books, her one https://www.amazon.com/dp/0805389121/?tag=pfamazon01-20 and one https://www.amazon.com/dp/129203971X/?tag=pfamazon01-20. I haven't been able to find any differences between the books online - the 2013 book doesn't seem to be a new edition of the older book. Surely 10 years would bring some new material, but I don't want to have to buy it to find out. Does anyone know anything about this new book?

Alternatively, would anyone recommend the newer book? The older one seem quite good and I can borrow it from the library, but I'd like to get the newer one if it's worth the money.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
