AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the enforcement of rules in a physics forum, particularly regarding the expression of ideas and copyright issues. A user expresses frustration over perceived censorship and the inability to share thoughts freely, questioning whether the forum is open to new ideas. Responses emphasize that while new ideas are welcome, they must be presented rigorously and not infringe on copyright laws. The moderators clarify that the forum aims to maintain a serious scientific discourse and discourage "crackpot" theories. Users are reminded that this is a private forum with specific rules, and violations can lead to infractions or bans. The conversation concludes with a mention of the potential for IP bans to prevent users from circumventing bans by creating new accounts.

Sorry Vanadium 50 is a mentor/admin and you are not allowed to ignore him or her.

Am I also not allowed to express my thoughts? I'll probably get banned here soon and probably it is better that way. I am not allowed?

Is this a physics forum open to new ideas or is it not?

What 'new ideas' did you have in mind?

If your "new idea" is rigorously presented in a scholarly format as given https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=82301", you can post in independent research.

Otherwise, there's no need to discuss off the wall ideas with no scientific basis. That just attracts crackpottery.

If you have a new idea, then post it in Independent Research. But only do that IFF you show that you understand the current theories. We really have no need for crackpot posts here.

It's very difficult to get banned here if you adhere to the rules, so if you get banned, then I don't think the mentors are to blame...

One of them would be the idea I can post here whatever I want to post here and not have some mod or whatever give me infractions for some sort of "copyright" rights stuff when I simply copied and pasted something that was freely posted on the net. Freedom of expression is of course not a new or novel idea or ideal, but I do think rather worthwhile.

"New"
ideas,,, sure, multiple synchronistic Universes working together. Doc Al, tell me what you know and let's explore.

This is a private forum. You only have as much freedom of expression as we choose to give you. But that's really here nor there: copyright violation is illegal so we don't allow it here in order to avoid getting sued.

Oh God, I really don't want this forum to be a place where everybody can just post anything. This is meant to be a serious discussing forum for real (or complex) science, not for crackpottery...

And if you have qualms about the mentors, then the best thing to do is to send a message to the mentor and explaining the situation. This is a way better method then trying to humiliate them in public...

And I think it speaks for itself that you can't post copyrighted stuff. PF could get in legal trouble for that...

Just because something is posted on the internet does not mean you can repost it without permission of the person holding the copyright. Is that what this is about, you don't know what copyright means?

As it has been already mentioned, this is a private forum. There is no freedom of speech here.

You need to learn how copyright works. Just because it is available on the Internet does not make it legal to distribute.

I'll just go elsewhere, goodbye.m

I don't understand this forum's severe censorship.
I got a warning and a 2 point infraction for nothing. completely meaningless.
After this post, I am sure I will get extra infractions and will be banned.
being banned is not a serious issue for me. I can open a new account.
how will they prevent banned people from opening new accounts?

Ever heard of this thing called an IP address?

The "censorship" is here to maintain PF as a discussion forum for serious science. Not off the wall, crackpot theories.

Uh, mentors don't give infractions for fun. Why did you get one?

I really don't notice anything of this "severe censorship", if it were for me, the rules would be even more strict.

After this post, I am sure I will get extra infractions and will be banned.

Two words: IP ban.

You received a PM with the infraction explaining it and it looked pretty straightforward to me. If you don't understand, PM the mod who sent it or pm another.

Anyway, the OP's issue has been addressed. Thread locked.
