Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the double slit interference experiment, specifically focusing on the effects of different materials and configurations on the interference fringes produced in the experiment.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the implications of introducing different materials in the slits and how this might affect the interference pattern. Questions arise regarding the meaning of "separate baffle" and the specific materials being referenced.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants seeking clarification on terms and concepts. Some guidance has been offered regarding the effects of refractive index on fringe location and the conditions under which interference occurs.

Contextual Notes

There is a lack of clarity regarding the specific setup being discussed, including the materials involved and the configuration of the baffles. Participants are encouraged to provide additional context or sketches to enhance understanding.

If separate baffle around two different substances,What impact on the interference fringes?

What do you mean with "If separate baffle around two different substances"?

What impact on the interference fringes?
If you plan to add some transparent material (with different refractive index) in the slits: The fringes can shift in their location.
If you block any possibility for interference: The double-slit interference does not happen any more, you get two single-slit patterns.

Change the damper's own material

Which damper, which material?

Actually, I have no idea what you are asking. Can you add some context, sketch or other explanations?

You mean the screen's material.Well it doesn't matter where you project that beam,it should be a nice flat surface, thats all you need, and a coherent light source.
