Ethene + Steam = Ethane and perhaps a magical unknown substance

AI Thread Summary
The reaction of ethene with steam primarily produces ethanol through an electrophilic addition mechanism, represented by the equation CH2=CH2 + H2O → CH3-CH2OH. There is uncertainty regarding the formation of any other significant products, with some sources suggesting that ethanol is the only major product. The discussion also briefly mentions the possibility of ethanal, but notes that its formation would require additional reagents like Potassium Dichromate. Overall, the consensus is that ethanol is the main product of this reaction. Further clarification or alternative products remains elusive in the discussion.

Homework Statement

Ethene + Steam produces ethanol and...

Homework Equations

CH2=CH2 + H2O ---> CH3-CH2OH or ...

The Attempt at a Solution

Couldn't find anything. I toyed with ethanal but that requires Potassium Dichromate. One 'source' (i.e. yahoo answers (I think)) suggests there is no other product possible.
The question is from a booklet I have.
Any help much sppreciated.

C_2H_4 + H_2O \to C_2H_5OH looks right via an electrophilic addition mechanism. As to whether any other major products forms is doubtful.

Thats ethanol right? Its the only one I could think of also.
Cool name by the way. Gabriel's horn and Torricelli's trumpet both sound like euphemisms.

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
