AI Thread Summary
Extracting potassium nitrate crystals from NPK fertilizer with a composition of 20-20-20 is technically possible, but it is not practical. The fertilizer may not contain potassium nitrate specifically, as it primarily includes nitrogen and potassium in different forms. Purchasing potassium nitrate directly is a simpler and more efficient solution. Additionally, there are regulatory considerations regarding the purchase of certain compounds, which may influence the decision to extract rather than buy.

Why? Why not just buy some potassium nitrate? What's the application here?

Perhaps the OP intends to add some sulfur and charcoal...
Buying some compounds on a particular list is monitored, remember.

Just because the fertilizer contains N and K doesn't necessarily mean it contains potassium nitrate.

Technically yes, it is doable. Practically it is much easier to buy the potassium nitrate itself.

I want to test a humidity sensor with one or more saturated salt solutions. The table salt that I have on hand contains one of two anticaking agents, calcium silicate or sodium aluminosilicate. Will the presence of either of these additives (or iodine for that matter) significantly affect the equilibrium humidity? I searched and all the how-to-do-it guides did not address this question. One research paper I found reported that at 1.5% w/w calcium silicate increased the deliquescent point by...
