SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on sourcing a suitable 500 MHz UHF transistor for a project, emphasizing the need for components with specific S-parameters and solderable sizes. The 2N5179 transistor is highlighted as a classic option, with a current gain bandwidth of 1.4 GHz. Alternatives such as the BFG540, which offers a bandwidth of 9 GHz, and the Agilent ATF-36163, rated for 18 GHz, are also recommended. Additionally, the Agilent MGA-52543 MMIC amplifier is suggested for those requiring a ready-made amplification solution.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of transistor specifications, particularly S-parameters
  • Familiarity with UHF frequency ranges and applications
  • Basic soldering skills for electronic components
  • Knowledge of MMIC technology and its applications in amplification
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specifications and applications of the 2N5179 transistor
  • Explore the BFG540 transistor's datasheet for performance metrics
  • Investigate the Agilent ATF-36163 for high-frequency applications
  • Learn about the design and implementation of MMIC amplifiers, specifically the MGA-52543
USEFUL FOR

Electronics engineers, hobbyists working on RF projects, and anyone involved in designing or sourcing high-frequency transistors and amplifiers.

I am trying to find an 500 MHz uhf transistor for a project and I need one which is big enough that i can solder (i.e., not a mm wide) and it has to have the s parameters on the data sheet. If anyone can help me with what i am looking for that would help out a lot!

Thanks

Is there any other transistors with a higher current gain bandwidth? the 2N5179 has 1.4 GHz, I'm looking for around 6 GHz
