How Do Gravity Anomalies Affect Earth's Shape?

In summary, scientists have created a way to visualize gravity anomalies using a sphere and exaggerated highs and lows. However, it would be more useful if a color legend was added to show the extent of gravity changes. Additionally, this method could help verify the difference in gravity between the poles and center of the Earth.

"These gravity anomalies, as they are known, are imperceptible to the human senses, and so the scientists have wrapped the data on to a sphere and exaggerated the highs and lows."

Wow, that's good, but wouldn't it be great if they put a color legend so that we know how much change in gravity does the colors mean ? (and therefore, it will turn out usefull ).
Also (as soon as we have a color legend), we can make sure it is right, cause ... the difference of gravity between the poles and center of Earth should be easy to see in this kind of maps, shouldn't it ? (cause i don't see it !)

FAQ: How Do Gravity Anomalies Affect Earth's Shape?

What is a gravity map of the earth?

A gravity map of the earth is a visual representation of the gravitational force exerted by the earth's surface at different locations. It shows variations in the strength of gravity across the planet.

How is a gravity map of the earth created?

A gravity map of the earth is created using data collected from satellites, which measure the gravitational pull at different points on the earth's surface. This data is then processed and mapped to create a visual representation of the earth's gravitational field.

What can a gravity map of the earth tell us?

A gravity map of the earth can tell us about the distribution of mass within the planet. Areas with higher gravity indicate a higher density of materials, while areas with lower gravity indicate a lower density.

Why is a gravity map of the earth important?

A gravity map of the earth is important for understanding the structure and composition of our planet, as well as for applications in geology, geophysics, and navigation. It can also help us identify potential natural resources and hazards.

How often is a gravity map of the earth updated?

A gravity map of the earth is constantly being updated as new data is collected and processed. However, the frequency of updates can vary depending on the source and purpose of the map. Some maps may be updated annually, while others may be updated more frequently.
