How Can a Navy Seaman Pursue a Passion for Physics?

I am currently serving in the US Navy. I am right now pursuing physics as my grandpa did. I am fascinated by the world around and I want to understand it. I have always loved watching those shows about physics and astronomy. I do not have a strong background in my education since I did not care at the time. I am currently revisiting classes on Kahn Academy. I am especially revisiting math classes and taking calculus right now(Thomas Calculus, 13th edition). I plan on enrolling in college when I receive my first orders to where ever the Navy decides to place me. So I am just doing self-study right now. If there is any book or classes anyone would recommend me taking. I am open-minded.

A warm welcome to PF.

In order to help you start out here, the following are the three main sections in PF. You should explore them well:

1. The main forums, that you see in the first page.
2. Insights Blog, available at the top row (header section). In short, they have been described as a "wonder of the web". It contains articles that help in learning topics to a great extent.
3. The Videos, also available in the header section. The media gallery now has some great videos in almost every aspect in science, and they provide an audio-visual learning experience.

The last two will help you in studying topics; use the first one for clarifying your doubts. A lot of lectures are available in the medal gallery. Check them out.

With regards,
Wrichik.

Thank you! Any specific lectures you would recommend me to watch?

For basic physics, you can refer to Ramamurti Shankar's lectures Fundamentals of Physics part 1 and part 2. These are present in the media gallery as well, but they're scattered in different categories.

Regarding the other topics, I will not recommend anything in particular. You can use the media search option to search for topics you need. Since you are studying calculus, there are a lot of videos in the calculus category, but I have not uploaded any lecture course yet. If you want lectures on any specific topic, send me a private message (click on my user name and you'll see the option), and I will be happy to help you.
