SUMMARY

The discussion centers on waterproofing a soldered wire connection carrying 230V AC at 6.8 Amps. Self-sealing silicone tape is recommended as an effective solution, as it fuses upon contact to create a watertight seal when applied to clean, smooth surfaces. Brands such as Permatex, Rustoleum, and Duck Brand offer suitable products available at home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. However, it is crucial to note that such installations may not comply with local electrical codes for outdoor power.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrical wiring and soldering techniques
  • Familiarity with 230V AC electrical systems
  • Knowledge of waterproofing materials and their applications
  • Awareness of local electrical codes and regulations
NEXT STEPS
  • Research self-sealing silicone tape options and their specifications
  • Learn about local electrical codes regarding outdoor wiring installations
  • Explore best practices for soldering wire connections in high-voltage applications
  • Investigate alternative waterproofing methods for electrical connections
USEFUL FOR

Electricians, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone involved in outdoor electrical installations seeking effective waterproofing solutions for soldered wire connections.

Hello, I'm trying to find the best way to waterproof a wire connection.

As you can see in the image I've got three wires connected together with a bit of electrical tape in place. I can't fit a standard junction box because the wires are soldered together.

Is there anything I could use that would make this more waterproof?

Many thanks!

Edit: Referring to 230v AC, 6.8 Amps.

Self sealing silicone tape might do the trick. It is stretchy and when it contacts itself will fuse and produce a water tight seal if it has good contact on clean smooth surfaces. Permatex, Rustoleum, Duck Brand and others make a 1 inch wide product and should be available at home center like Home Depot or Lowes in the US.

Just what kind of signal/voltage/current is involved here?

May we know what kind of voltage travels on those wires?

@TechTree informed me that the wires are 230VAC, for carrying power.

I do not believe that installation can comply with local electrical codes for outdoor power.
