How does Potential Energy converted into Kinetic Energy? ?

AI Thread Summary
Potential energy (PE) is converted into kinetic energy (KE) when an object falls from a height, as its PE decreases while its KE increases. The total energy remains constant if no energy is lost to air resistance or drag, following the principle of conservation of energy. As the object descends, all potential energy can theoretically be transformed into kinetic energy. This relationship illustrates the dynamic interchange between potential and kinetic energy during free fall. Understanding this conversion is fundamental in physics.

As we know that every object that has kinetic energy could also have potential energy. Now suppose an object is in rest at a distance of h meter from ground so it has some potential energy and no kinetic energy, now if it starts to fall towards the ground can we say that its total potential energy will be converted into kinetic energy?

Yes (assuming no energy is lost to air resistance/drag).

Applying conservation of energy... PE + KE = Constant.

I have recently been really interested in the derivation of Hamiltons Principle. On my research I found that with the term ##m \cdot \frac{d}{dt} (\frac{dr}{dt} \cdot \delta r) = 0## (1) one may derivate ##\delta \int (T - V) dt = 0## (2). The derivation itself I understood quiet good, but what I don't understand is where the equation (1) came from, because in my research it was just given and not derived from anywhere. Does anybody know where (1) comes from or why from it the...
