To add images to forum posts, users can utilize the "insert image" button or type the IMG tag with the image URL. Images are only enabled in specific forums, indicated by a status box at the bottom left when creating a post. If images are disabled, only the link will display. Users can also attach images via the "manage attachments" button, but this option is not available for quick replies. There is a suggestion to allow IMG tags in more forums to facilitate clearer explanations with visuals.

I feel stupid, but I can't find the "help" to use the forum. What I'm looking-for is what to do to include an image in a post.
Thanks.

Physics news on Phys.org
there is https://www.physicsforums.com/Nexus/editor/insertimage.gif button when you post.

or, you can type this thing:

[IMG]https://www.physicsforums.com/Prime/theme/Prime_Logo.gif[/[b]IMG[/b]]

and it turns into:

https://www.physicsforums.com/Prime/theme/Prime_Logo.gif

hmmm... according to this it should not work.

I believe that images are only enabled in this and the General Discussion Forum. You can tell by looking at the bottom left corner of the page when making a new post. There is a box that indicates if images are enabled - On or Off. If they aren't, only the link will appear.

You can also attach images by using the "manage attachments" button when making a new post [not quick replies].

Thanks! Some explanations really need an image.
It is the "manage attachments" button what I needed.

Would it be desirable to allow IMG tags in other forums? There are occasions where images/diagrams could be helpful in an explanation; it is rather cumbersome to provide a web link at the bottom of your post to the image and attachments tend to take a while to be approved.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
