How to Calculate Orifice Size for Fluid Flow Dispensing?

Click For Summary
To calculate the orifice size for dispensing a viscous fluid like polyurethane prepolymer, key variables include the fluid's viscosity and the pressure applied. The viscosity, which varies with temperature and batch, significantly impacts flow rate. A formula that incorporates these factors is essential for designing a valve that dispenses accurate amounts within a specified time frame. Online flow calculators can assist in determining the appropriate orifice size. Accurate calculations are crucial for effective fluid dispensing in industrial applications.

hello all,

i need to calculate the size of an orifice that will pass a certain volume of a viscous fluid

per time of say 10 seconds

pressure and viscosity are the variable values.

the application is in the design of a valve for dispensing accurate amounts of
a liquid of a given viscosity. (the liquid is polyurethane prepolymer which is a sticky
fluid of which the viscosity is always known but varies from batch to batch)

the viscosity changes with temperature

Can anyone please suggest a formula ?

Best regards

What mathematics software should engineering students use? Is it correct that much of the engineering industry relies on MATLAB, making it the tool many graduates will encounter in professional settings? How does SageMath compare? It is a free package that supports both numerical and symbolic computation and can be installed on various platforms. Could it become more widely used because it is freely available? I am an academic who has taught engineering mathematics, and taught the...
