Index page not leading directly to the boards

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the recent addition of a Library section to the forum, which some users appreciate for its visibility. There is a suggestion to create an index page that allows first-time visitors to access either the Library or the boards directly. However, others argue that the boards should be prioritized on the main page since they are the primary focus of activity. Concerns are raised that an index page could complicate navigation for new members. Overall, the preference leans towards keeping the boards easily accessible without additional layers.

The recently added Library section is great. I can see it's highlighted in green to make it more visible than the other items on the menu. Maybe it would be a great service to anyone coming across the forum for the first time to have an index page with the choice to access either the library or the boards, and whatever future sections are added?

Sorry but I disagree with this. The library is cool, but the boards are where the action is. I want the boards on the first page encountered, not one (or more) clicks away from the first page encountered.

I agree with George. An extra index page will just cause added confusion for new members, let alone making the forums hidden under a cover page.

I concur with the mentors.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
