AI Thread Summary
Updating Firefox 38.0.5 is necessary for proper functionality when attaching files and images to posts. Users find the icons in the post editor confusing, as none clearly indicate an "attach image" function. The icons present include a mountain, film, plus sign, and camera, but they do not facilitate file attachment. Instead, the correct method is to click the "upload" button located below the text box to attach images or files. After uploading, users can select how to display the attachments in their posts.

Must I update my trusty Firefox 38.0.5 in order to attach files and images to a post?

The icons over the post editor are not helpful for this task. Is there a "standard" paperclip symbol somewhere that is the interface for attachments?

I can't get any of the icons that look like they might function as "attach image" to do that. There is icon of a mountain, a icon of a piece of film, and icon of a "+", and an icon of a camera. As far as I can tell, none of them perform the simple function of attaching a image or other file that's on my computer.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
