some dutch student figured out how to use infinite series to approximate the root of a polynomial of n terms, and they act like he found some crazy way to solve for the roots of any polynomial.

you can read about it on slashdot.

just thought that it was amusing.

I completely agree with you, the press can often sensationalize and exaggerate scientific discoveries, making them seem more groundbreaking than they actually are. While the Dutch student's use of infinite series to approximate the root of a polynomial is certainly impressive, it is not a completely new or revolutionary method. Mathematicians have been using infinite series for centuries to approximate solutions to various equations. It is important for the press to accurately portray scientific advancements, rather than blowing them out of proportion. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and highlighting the importance of critical thinking when reading news articles.
