Is This Spring Schedule Too Challenging?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a university student, Austin, who is finalizing his spring semester schedule as a dual major in Electrical Engineering (EE) and Mathematics. His course load includes Materials Engineering, Creative Writing, and several advanced math courses, totaling 15 credit hours. Austin expresses concern about the difficulty of his schedule, particularly with challenging classes like Probability and Statistics and Robotics. Respondents clarify that "Basic Concepts of Math" is a rigorous 300-level course, not a simple introductory class, and emphasize that proper preparation is essential for success in the more advanced courses. The consensus highlights the importance of ensuring foundational knowledge before tackling higher-level subjects.

Hello everyone,
I am currently picking my classes for spring semester. This is currently my second semester at university and I am a dual major of EE and Math.

Here is my schedule:

MATE 202-01 4 Materials Engineering I w/ Lab (I need this for an engineering elective and this is what I chose)

ENGL 311-01 3 Creative Writing

MATH 352-01 3 Basic Concepts of Math

MATH 382-01 3 Probability and Statistics

MATH 382L-01 1 Probability and Statistics Lab

MENG 189-01 1 Robotics

Total: 15 Credit Hours

I know I have a couple of challenging classes so I was wondering if all of this is too much to handle. If you have any questions let me know and I will answer them.

Thanks!,

Austin

NOTE: This was an edit from a previous post with some changes with input from my advisor.

If you are at a point where you need Basic Math, it does not seem that you are properly prepared for Probability and Statistics, or for Robotics.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that "Basic Math" is not simple algebra or something like that. It's a junior level course, haha

"Basic Concepts of Math" is NOT a basic math course. It is essentially a class to introduce students to subjects like complex and real analysis and for other 400 level math classes. It has a prereq of calc II. However, I have taken Calc I-III and linear algebra and I am taking ODE's this semester.

100% correct. It is a 300 level course so it's not like a college algebra class lol.

TL;DR Summary: What topics to cover to safely say I know arithmetic ? I am learning arithmetic from Indian NCERT textbook. Currently I have finished addition ,substraction of 2 digit numbers and divisions, multiplication of 1 digit numbers. I am moving pretty slowly. Can someone tell me what topics to cover first to build a framework and then go on in detail. I want to learn fast. It has taken me a year now learning arithmetic. I want to speed up. Thanks for the help in advance. (I also...
Hi community My aim is to get into research about atoms, specifically, I want to do experimental research that explores questions like: 1. Why do Gallium/Mercury have low melting points 2. Why are there so many exceptions and inconsistencies when it comes to explaining molecular structures / reaction mechanisms in inorganic and organic chemistry 3. Experimental research about fundamental Quantum Mechanics, such as the one being followed by Hiroshima university that proved that observing...
guys i am currently studying in computer science engineering [1st yr]. i was intrested in physics when i was in high school. due to some circumstances i chose computer science engineering degree. so i want to incoporate computer science engineering with physics and i came across computational physics. i am intrested studying it but i dont know where to start. can you guys reccomend me some yt channels or some free courses or some other way to learn the computational physics.
