Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around how to effectively answer the job application question, "Why do I plan on leaving this company?" in the context of seeking additional income sources rather than resigning from a current position. Participants explore various ways to frame this situation for job applications.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses the need to answer the question truthfully while seeking a second source of income.
  • Another participant suggests that stating "I'm looking for more of a challenge" could provide a suitably ambiguous response.
  • A different viewpoint proposes the phrase "exploring another area as a possibility for growth in a different direction" as a potential answer.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on a single best answer, with multiple suggestions and approaches being offered without agreement on which is most appropriate.

Contextual Notes

Participants express uncertainty about how to balance honesty with the need to present a favorable image to potential employers.

Hi,
Here's my question on how to answer this question on online or paper job boards:"Why do I plan on leaving this company?"? The thing is, in my case I'm not planning on leaving/resigning/quitting my current job position. I'm planning on getting dual strings of income/multiple incomes. My question is how to best answer this question.
Again, my question is how to properly answer the job question: "why am i planning on leaving this company" if I want dual strings of income?
Thank you.

Isn't there one proper answer, namely the truth?

I'm just wondering of a way to properly say that I'm looking for a second source of income on Indeed.com or other job boards/applications. Thank you.

"I'm looking for more of a challenge" might be suitably ambiguous. You can always explain at interview or change your mind and keep both jobs (assuming both companies are happy with that).

How about "exploring another area as a possibility for growth in a different direction"?
